First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

The sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are received for the first time typically in second grade. Children are usually enrolled in our Faith Formation program on Wednesday nights and receive additional instruction at the special sessions in the fall and spring.

First Reconciliation

Preparation classes for Reconciliation are held in November (refer to calendar for dates.

We use as our curriculum, Encounter with Christ from OSV. We will cover half of the book in each session, along with a short video and some activities to help your child learn the RITE (order) of Reconciliation and of course a snack.

Please help your child learn the Act of Contrition. At the time of their First Reconciliation a written copy will be available for them to read.

Act of Contrition

My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance, to sin no more,
and avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.

First Eucharist

Preparation classes for First Eucharist are held in the spring (refer to calendar for dates).

We use as our curriculum, Encounter with Christ  from OSV. As in First Reconciliation we cover half of the book in each session, along with a video,The Mass, from a child's point of view. The First Eucharist class is involved in their own Mass. We will choose readers, gift bearers during class as well as learn how to line up for our big procession into church. We encourage you to attend weekly Mass to help your child learn how to participate in and become familiar with the Sunday Liturgy.

Retreat

We also have a parent/child retreat on the third week. We have 5 stations that you will rotate through as a family. It usually last about two hours. Then we will have a short lunch break and continue onto rehearsal for First Eucharist. Volunteers are welcome to help serve and clean-up lunch.

First Eucharist Mass

The First Eucharist Mass will be celebrated this year on Sunday April 30 at the 10:30 Mass (Please refer to calendar for date). No flash pictures during Mass itself. Immediately following Mass, a reception will be held in Berg Hall for all.
